2008 Navy-Marine Corps Ball Contributions Set New Record Vivian Gardner, Chair of the 2008 Navy-Marine Corps Ball, presents a check for $561,805 to Admiral Steve Abbot, USN (Ret), President and Chief Executive Officer of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.  Held on April 5, 2008, at the Washington Hilton and Towers, this year’s ball set a record in contributions. More than 1,000 guests enjoyed the evening which featured music by elements of The President’s Own Marine Corps Band and elements of the U.S. Navy Band.  Guests of honor included Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter, General James E. Cartwright, USMC, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Robert Magnus, USMC, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Admiral Gary Roughead, USN, Chief of Naval Operations.
