2009 Navy-Marine Corps Ball Contributions Set New Record Joyce White, Chair of the 2009 Navy-Marine Corps Ball, presents a check for $565,915 to Admiral Steve Abbot, USN (Ret), President and Chief Executive Officer of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. Held on March 28, 2009, at the Washington Hilton and Towers, this year's ball set a record in contributions, thanks, in part, to a new element at this year's Ball - a popular Silent Auction. More than 1,000 guests enjoyed the evening which featured music by elements of The President's Own Marine Corps Band and elements of the U.S. Navy Band. Guests of honor included Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, Marine Corps Commandant General James T. Conway, USMC, Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff General James E.
