Hurricane Relief
and Donations

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society staff is committed to the safety and welfare of our Sailors, Marines and their families whose military assignments have placed them in the paths of this season’s hurricanes.  In the wake of Hurricane Gustav, and anticipating the potential for evacuation and damage associated with follow-on tropical storms and hurricanes such as Hanna, Ike, Josephine, the Society has established a special account for charitable contributions and disbursements that ensure all funds donated for this purpose will provide needed financial support to the families impacted by this season’s hurricanes. The Society has already provided more than $75,000 in emergency evacuation assistance to over 250 families along the Gulf Coast.

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society has offices located all along the Gulf and Atlantic coast - New Orleans, LA;  Gulfport and Meridian, MS;  Pensacola, Jacksonville, and Mayport, FL;  Ingleside and Corpus Christi, TX;  Kings Bay, GA; Beaufort, Charleston and Parris Island, SC;  Camp Lejeune, New River, Parris Island, and Cherry Point, NC; and in Little Creek, Norfolk, Oceana and Portsmouth, VA.  We have and will continue to help families with evacuation funds prior to the storm and through the longer-term recovery process of re-establishing their homes in the days, weeks, and months after the storms.

As always, our mutual support agreements allow Navy and Marine families to receive financial assistance at any of our NMCRS offices and at our partnership relief agencies (Air Force Aid Society, Army Emergency Relief, and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance), wherever they are located throughout the region.  In addition, the American Red Cross provides emergency service on our behalf by calling the Armed Forces Emergency Service Center at (877) 272-7337.  If you need hurricane assistance, call the Society’s office nearest you (you can find them on our website) or contact our Headquarters for information at (703) 699-4904.  After hours, contact the Armed Forces Emergency Service Center number above.

If you or your organization/corporation wishes to make a donation to help these families, please select this link to make a Hurricane Relief contribution now, or send your check payable to NMCRS (or Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society) to our Headquarters address: 875 North Randolph Street, Suite 225, Arlington VA 22203.  In the lower left corner of the check, please annotate Hurricane Relief.  All donations will be acknowledged and we appreciate the benevolence of patriotic Americans across the nation.

The Society is not in a position to accept donated articles of clothing, bottled water, canned food or other items of substance.  Such contributions are being coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  You may call them at (202) 646-4600.

Effective Date: 4 September 2008
