New director ‘gets the call’ at SUBASE Groton

Groton CT, June 27, 2013

The Naval Submarine Base New London (SUBASE) Navy, Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Office has a new director at the helm.

Getting the call

A native of Vermont and graduate of the University of Vermont, Liberty-Topliff moved to the area as a Navy spouse in 1982. A teacher by profession, she volunteered at the society after she found that there were no community teaching positions available.

"I knew the society wanted volunteers, so I called and they asked if I could start the next day," said Liberty-Topliff.

She volunteered for four years, then took a job at the American Red Cross as the volunteer coordinator for the Blood Services Program. After working for the Red Cross for 18 months, Liberty-Topliff received a phone call from the society.

"I got a phone call asking me if I was interested in applying for a position in Groton as a budget counselor at NMCRS, so I did, and I got the job," said Liberty-Topliff.
