Help families "budget for baby"
Our Budget for Baby workshop is designed for service members preparing for baby. Volunteers who teach this workshop get to work directly with expectant moms and dads, helping them make positive financial preparations for their growing family.
Profile of a workshop volunteer
If you enjoy people and you’re a good communicator, this may be the right opportunity for you. You’ll prepare for each workshop by gathering and reviewing course materials. During the workshop, you’ll help parents make wise decisions about buying baby items such as furniture and car seats, and show them how to budget for expenses like formula and diapers. Many instructors also research and share local money-saving resources and ideas.
You’ll also have the pleasure of presenting each family with the Society’s baby care package at the end of the workshop.
What volunteers can expect
This position allows some flexibility on hours, as workshops may be held during the day or the evening, on- or off-base. You’ll receive training for this position, as well as training on military pay and allowances. Most importantly, you can expect to leave each workshop knowing you helped future parents be better financially prepared for their baby.
