Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Meridian to Expand Services

Arlington, VA, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 - Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Meridian will expand financial assistance and services provided beginning Tuesday, May 20, 2014.

In addition to emergency financial assistance, budget counseling and personal financial management education currently offered at NMCRS Meridian, this office will now process Quick Assist Loans (QALs) for eligible active duty members. The Meridian office will continue to be staffed entirely by volunteers.  The office, located on the Naval Air Station at 225 Rosenbaum Avenue, Suite 283, Meridian, Mississippi, is open for walk-ins or by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“In 2013, the Society provided more than $48 million of financial assistance, in the form of interest-free loans and grants, to active duty and retired Sailors, Marines and their families.  We’re excited to be able to provide QALs at the NMCRS Meridian office.  Whether funds are needed for food, gas, lodging or a family emergency, eligible active duty Sailors and Marines stationed at NAS Meridian can now receive a QAL to resolve their immediate financial need.  Since it only takes about 15 minutes to process the QAL application, active duty servicemembers can  quickly return to their duties at the health clinic, in the galley, the training center or on the flight line,” says Alice Huffman, Director, NMCRS Gulfport.

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides financial assistance and education to active duty and retired members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps, their eligible family members and survivors – when in need. NMCRS is staffed by more than 3,800 volunteers, and a small cadre of employees, in offices around the world – ashore and aboard ships.

For more information regarding NMCRS programs, services or ways to support NMCRS, please visit www.nmcrs.org or call (800) 654-8364.  Emergency assistance is always available from the American Red Cross Services Armed Forces Center toll-free number, (877) 272-7337.
