Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Yokosuka Thrift Shop Grand Opening

Arlington, VA, Wednesday, November 18, 2015 – Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Yokosuka will open its new thrift shop with a ribbon cutting event on Tuesday, December 1 at 9:30 a.m.  The thrift shop is open weekly for shopping on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Donated items can be dropped off on Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The NMCRS Yokosuka Thrift Shop offers gently-used, low-cost uniforms, clothing and small household items to active duty and retired Sailors, Marines and their families.

“We are a volunteer supported organization and our amazing volunteers brought this thrift shop to life” said Tanya Hertel, Director of NMCRS Yokosuka who oversees the thrift shop.  “We were also fortunate to have the support of Sailors and Marines who selflessly donated their time and efforts, working arduously to help us get the thrift shop’s doors open in time for the holiday season. It was truly a team effort and we could never have made that happen without everyone’s support.”

“The Society’s thrift shops help service members stretch their budgets and make it a lot more affordable for military families to set up households when they’ve transferred, or when they’re getting married or starting a family.  It’s also a great place to find inexpensive, like-new uniform items and clothing for the whole family and especially for children” said Barbara Sheffer, Director of Volunteer Support for NMCRS.  “If you’re downsizing or packing up to move and have items you won’t need at your new duty station, donate them to the Society’s thrift shop.  If you’re just arriving, and your household goods are delayed, come shop in our thrift shop. Our volunteers will help you find the perfect item at a great price!”
