Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Annapolis Offers Expanded Services

Arlington, VA, Tuesday, November 3 - Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Annapolis, Maryland now offers expanded services to include Quick Assist Loans (QALs) for eligible active duty members.  The office, located on Naval Station Annapolis at 168 Bennion Rd Room 103, is staffed entirely by volunteers and is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. offering all services; and Wednesday from 12:00 to 3:00 for QALs only.

QALs are short-term, interest-free loans for up to $500 that are available to Navy and Marine Corps service members facing an emergency or other urgent financial situation.  QALs are available to Sailors and Marines who:

• Are on active duty
• Have no outstanding NMCRS loans
• Need financial assistance for basic living expenses or other family emergencies

“The NMCRS Annapolis Office has a long history of support for sea service families in this community. We’re very excited to now offer QALs for active duty service members so they won’t have to travel to our offices at the Washington Navy Yard or Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Now, this office can help more Sailors and Marines resolve unplanned, emergent issues that impact their ability to focus on their military mission,” stated Melodie Weddle, Director or the NMCRS Washington Navy Yard office.

Since 1905, the Annapolis office has provided emergency financial assistance for Navy and Marine Corps families in the local community, to include assistance with emergency travel and financial assistance, as well as counseling and education on personal financial management, and offers Budget for Baby workshops.  This office also operates a thriving thrift shop where service members and families can purchase gently-used, low-cost uniforms, clothing and small household goods.

For more information about NMCRS programs, services or ways to support NMCRS, visit or call (800) 654-8364.  For information about NMCRS Annapolis call (410) 293-9220, (202) 433-3364 or DSN 288-3364. Emergency travel and financial assistance is always available from the American Red Cross Armed Forces Services Center’s toll-free number, (877) 272-7337.
