Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Expands Services Offered in Lakehurst

Arlington, VA, Monday, Tuesday 13, 2013 – The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society has expanded the services available to active duty Sailors and Marines at their Lakehurst, New Jersey office to include Quick Assist Loans (QALs).  The NMCRS Lakehurst Office is the second part-time office to offer QALs to active duty personnel.

Marines and Sailors must apply for a QAL in person at the Lakehurst Office, located in Bldg 158 on Berry Road on the Joint Base McGuire – Dix - Lakehurst.  Staffed by volunteers, NMCRS Lakehurst will be open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Most QALs and emergency travel assistance can be processed on a walk-in basis during those hours or by calling (732) 608-3444 to make an appointment.

QALs are short-term, interest-free loans for up to $500 that are available to Navy and Marine Corps service members facing an emergency or other urgent financial situation.  QALs are available to Sailors and Marines who:

• Are on active duty
• Have no outstanding NMCRS loans
• Need help with basic living expenses or other financial emergency

“The support of area base and command leadership has really made this possible, and our volunteers are very excited to offer this new service to Sailors and Marines at Lakehurst,” said Melodie Weddle, Director, NMCRS Washington Navy Yard.  Last year, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society provided more than 43,000 QALs to active duty Sailors and Marines.
