Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society San Antonio to Open

Arlington, VA, January 15, 2015 – Grand Opening for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) San Antonio, Texas is scheduled for Friday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m.  The office is located on Fort Sam Houston Joint Base San Antonio in Building 131 at 2414 Stanley Road.  NMCRS San Antonio office will be staffed entirely by volunteers and will be open for business Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

NMCRS San Antonio will be a Local Service Office, not a Full Service Office typical of larger bases, such as the one located on Naval Air Station Fort Worth JRB, according to Sharon Zacharias, Director, NMCRS Fort Worth.  Assistance available at the San Antonio office will include emergency financial assistance, as well as counseling and education on personal financial management, for active duty and retired Sailors and Marines.  Additionally, the office will be able to process Quick Assist Loans for eligible active duty members.

In 2014, NMCRS provided more than $48 million of financial assistance in the form of interest-free loans and grants to active duty and retired Sailors, Marines and their families.  “As the number of Navy and Marine Corps service members, and their families, stationed and living in the San Antonio area continues to grow, we want to ensure we are meeting their needs,” says Zacharias.

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a non-profit, charitable organization that provides financial assistance and education to active duty and retired members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps, their eligible family members and survivors – when in need. NMCRS is staffed by more than 3,800 volunteers, and a small cadre of employees, in offices around the world – ashore and aboard ships.
