And when unexpected expenses pop up—car repairs, dental bills—it can feel like you’ll never get ahead. That’s why NMCRS created Money Ops – The Game. Money Ops isn’t a lecture—it’s a team challenge where you’ll make real-life financial decisions, face some unexpected “booms,” and see how your choices affect your financial goals. (And you won’t need to share your personal financial situation… it’s a game!)

Money Ops: 

  • Teaches general money concepts like saving, debt repayment and personal goals 
  • Outlines your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES)
  • Discusses retirement savings and why it’s important 
  • Reminds you that in real life, BOOM, something can happen—good or bad 
  • Shows some common mistakes (using predatory lenders, overpaying for subscriptions) 
  • Features resources you may not know about, like the Savings Deposit Program (SDP) and the Military Lending Act (MLA) 

At the end of the game, you’ll have some practical takeaways that you can start using immediately, and a QR code where you can access more resources after the session ends.
