We call the service members that come into our offices “clients.” Client service volunteers greet clients at the front desk, answer phones, schedule appointments, and help clients prep for their appointments. Being professional, compassionate and above all—discreet— is key to volunteers in this role. We protect every client’s personal and financial information to the fullest. This role could work as few as 3-hours/week. Interested in becoming a client services volunteer?

Budget for Baby® is a trademarked, 90-minute workshop, created exclusively for service members and their growing families. In the workshop, Sailors, Marines and their partners hear about the costs of having a baby, they learn about the resources available to them from NMCRS and the community, and they come away with a plan on how to save and budget for their family’s new addition. If you're a strong communicator and enjoy speaking to groups of people (public speaking), this volunteer position could be right for you! You’ll be fully trained and given course materials, handouts and even free gifts to give to attendees. Even if you don’t have children of your own, if you’re non-judgmental and professional, you could be our next Budget for Baby instructor!

Working at a thrift shop is just like working at any other retail store! You’ll unpack and sort donations, put price tags on items, create visual displays in the store, work at the checkout counter and so much more! Some volunteers work once a week, others more. No matter how frequently you work, every day is different!

If you’re a strong writer, presenter, or have graphic design skills, this is the role for you! Communications volunteers help create newsletters, flyers, articles and even social media posts to help active duty and retired Sailors, Marines and their families learn about NMCRS’s services. You might be asked to create Facebook posts, design a poster, or even present at a base. If you know marketing or advertising, come work with us!

This is one of our most important roles—requiring financial savvy, some coaching skills, and a big dose of compassion. Most clients come into NMCRS offices because they’re struggling with a difficult financial situation. A casework volunteer listens without judgement, is trusted with personal information, and helps the client find resources and solutions to regain their financial stability and stay mission ready.

Lead volunteers help train and mentor other volunteers. This could include guiding and directing them, working in groups as a team, and training others on our many programs and services. If you’re organized, self-motivated and a natural-born leader, come join NMCRS!

NMCRS thrift shops vary by location. Some are on bases and require base access, depending on location.
